Jie Qi's Dragon—Frost's Descent

Frost's Descent, the final solar term of autumn, signals the imminent arrival of winter. The temperature drops, and dew begins to freeze into frost. Though it brings a chill to the air, Frost’s Descent also represents the last burst of autumn brilliance—a moment where the magnificence of fall meets the calm of winter.

This season's young artist, Daniel Wang, brings his confident and bold spirit to the canvas with an expressive and vibrant depiction of this moment. Using strong colors and solid brushstrokes, Daniel’s work is filled with the decorative and expressive qualities that capture the essence of Frost’s Descent. His painting shows dark clouds sweeping in, bringing icy frost and snow from the sky, slowly covering the brilliant sunset. The intense contrast between the golden sunlight and the cold, shadowy frost creates a powerful visual impact, freezing the transitional moment between seasons with striking beauty.

What makes this exhibition particularly special is that it was organized as a rare outdoor showcase, curated by both Daniel Wang and YL, the daily host of Jie Qi’s Dragon exhibitions. The setting sun, casting a golden glow on a mild evening, created an almost surreal atmosphere—symbolic of the merging of Eastern solar term traditions with the landscape of Canada’s Maritime Provinces. The golden frost falling beneath the sunset felt like a brilliant cultural symphony, celebrating the harmony between Eastern and Canadian cultural narratives.

Daniel’s artwork transcends mere seasonal representation. Through his intense visual language, he captures the essence of Jie Qi’s Dragon, a project rooted in the cross-cultural dialogue between nature and human expression. In his hands, the solar terms become more than just markers of time—they represent moments where people, culture, and nature intersect and resonate in harmony.
