Autumn's First Flight: Cross-Cultural Contemporary Art - Jie Qi's Dragon End of Heat (处暑) Exhibition
Initiated and organized by artist Leo (Liu, Xin), the Jie Qi's Dragon project today showcases Alice Xiao's work, "End of Heat (处暑)," at Tea Hill. Each year around August 22nd or 23rd, when the sun reaches 150 degrees longitude, we welcome the solar term known as End of Heat. This marks the transition from summer to autumn, with "处" meaning "end," symbolizing the farewell to the summer heat.
Alice Xiao's artwork features her delicate, precise style infused with creativity. The melting ice cream in her piece represents the fading summer and the arrival of a new phase. Through her intricate techniques, she captures the subtle changes of the seasons.
The location, Tea Hill, may seem like a peaceful beach today, but it was once the take-off point for Canada's first transatlantic flight, a site as significant as Toronto Airport is today. This land, rich in history and transformation, mirrors the cultural and climate convergence explored by the Jie Qi's Dragon project.
Stay tuned for more from Jie Qi's Dragon as we continue to address climate issues and cultural integration through diverse art forms. Visit our website Jieqi.ca to learn more about this vibrant and thought-provoking project.
